Training

We are here to support you with training, certification tracking and compliance requirements across BIS Safety, the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) and Energy Safety Canada (ESC).

BIS Safety

CEDA uses BIS Safety (formerly called BIS Trainer) as our central Learning Management System (LMS) to:

  • Develop and maintain regional and position-based training matrices
  • Track employee certifications and training records
  • Generate reports that notify leaders of upcoming certification expirations
  • Schedule training
  • Support compliance reporting to the business

Through BIS Safety, you can access copies of all certifications you have submitted or completed as part of CEDA training.

Learning & Development

At CEDA, Learning & Development supports both safety training and long-term career growth. Our training programs follow a competency-based approach. This helps ensure employees have the knowledge, skills, certifications and experience needed to perform their jobs safely and effectively and to grow within the organization.

CEDA’s learning programs support two competency pathways:

Field Competency Framework

For field-based positions, our Competency Manuals outline the technical skills, equipment qualifications, safety certifications and experience needed for different equipment-related roles at CEDA.

Our training, development opportunities and courses are designed to support employees with career progression.

Professional Competency Framework (Levels 1–4)

For professional roles, our Competency Framework outlines the expectations, key behavioural skills and leadership skills needed at each level.

Training, development opportunities and courses are designed to help employees progress through these levels as part of their development plan.

Courses

CEDA offers a variety of online and instructor-led courses, including:

  • Safety certifications
  • Equipment and technical training
  • Regulatory and compliance courses
  • Leadership and professional development programs

If required training is not available internally, CEDA can help source and coordinate third-party providers to meet operational or competency needs.

Your leader must approve all course registrations.

Training Reimbursement

In addition to internal training, CEDA may access Federal and Provincial grant funding to support approved external training programs, such as Class 1 Driver Training.

External training must align with:

  • The employee’s role requirements within the Field Competency Framework, or
  • The employee’s development plan within the Competency Framework (Level 1–4)

Before enrolling, leaders should consult with Sarah Bochard, Manager, Training at 780-699-0584 to confirm eligibility for available grants and funding. To discuss how external training supports your role or career progression, speak with your leader or HR Business Partner.

Please refer to the Employee Education Assistance Policy when considering external training.
